Our Day at Columbus Zoo

Summer has arrived and we were off to the zoo! We are lucky enough to live within an hour of one of the top zoo's in the country.

We started our day at the polar bear exhibit, where we got to watch them eat. They also swam in the water above us, which was pretty cool!

You can't make a trip to the zoo without brushing the goats...

At the aquarium, we got to touch a chocolate chip starfish and a lobster without pincher's.

The girls have been wanting to go on a picnic, so we tied that into our day as well. We had some visitors, and a goose, Mama duck and her ducklings came by to see of we were offering some food.

This was Meghan's favorite stop...a baby gorilla, Misha, was caught in between a family fight at the Louisville Zoo and lost her left leg when she was only 2 months old. She was transferred her to Columbus after she recovered to become part of the gorilla surrogate mother program. Misha required 24 hour care from human surrogates until they can integrate her with a gorilla mother. So they feed her by bottle, play with her, and Misha sleeps on their chest. Cute, cute CUTE! Now Meghan wants to take care of baby gorillas when she grows up.

Pony rides!!

When we started the day, the train was out of order. Thankfully it was put back on track!

That aquarium thing is pretty awesome...

It's a showdown....man vs. wild. It's a good thing there is some thick glass in between....

A run thru the rain forest.

We ended our day with some Dippin' Dots. Overall we had a great day at the zoo...maybe we will go back soon to check on Misha's progress.
